In preparation for their March performances, the thespians started rehearsing in November for their steampunk production of Into the Woods.
“I’m feeling really excited,” said senior Hana Hernandez, who’s playing Little Red. “I feel like our cast is already getting off to a great start even though we just started music rehearsals, and I’m really excited to see what comes.”
For Hernandez, who has been a thespian for six years, the performance will be “bittersweet.”
“I’m really excited to be doing the show and having a lead and a good part, but also, I’m sad that it’s my last show and I’m gonna miss everybody in the theater department,” she said. “But I’m glad that we get to perform this amazing production before I leave.”
Senior Salvatore Pizzolato, who has also been a thespian for the past six years, said this will be a “heartfelt” experience.
“It’s a little sad … but it’s sort of empowering to us because as a senior [we] have the ability to put on [one] last show,” said Pizzolato, who plays the baker.
A PTS thespian since freshman year, senior Isabel Papp said she is also sad that this is her last show, but she hopes that the Into the Woods cast brings the same energy as last year’s Chicago cast.
“I really love the show,” said Papp, who is playing Jack’s mother. “It’s a really good cast and Chicago was really good last year, so I hope that we carry that on.”
Pizzolato also said he is looking forward to working on his senior show with Ms. Celia Potter, who became the director of theatre arts last year.
“Obviously with the arrival of Ms. Potter, we’ve definitely made a lot of progress,” Pizzolato said. “The department has grown a lot. I think the shows are very polished and put together. I think she’s really great at managing the show, and sort of keeping everything on track and making sure that it looks the best it can.”
Into the Woods will open March 8 at 7:30 p.m. Seminole Theatre in Homestead. There will also be matinee performance on March 9 at 2 p.m. Tickets will go on sale in February.
