By surveying various grades of the PTS student body, data was collected to examine how students study for any exams and if they have similar habits. With the use of study methods and unique routines, some students are able to adjust their own preferences to maximize their productivity and efficiency in studying.
By sending out a school-wide survey to PTS students, it was determined that the majority of our student body prefers to study for any exams in a completely silent area, as 64.1% convey. Another 20.5% of students stated they liked the more social, busy aresa to surround themselves in. The students, while including reasons why they preferred various areas ranging from quiet to busy, overall conveyed that focus for each student is subjective and varies from each student’s preferences. One student explains: “It depends on the mood. Some days it helps me study around other people, some days just really silent places,” showing that many preferences also may change due to mood or daily routines.
By answering another question regarding whether they listen to music or not while studying for exams, the data recorded expresses that the majority, or 66.7% of students, prefer to listen to music while studying. With short, quick explanations to their previous answer, it can be gathered that the reason that many students prefer music while studying is because it helps them focus even more. For example, one student explains, “[…] Also songs in other languages. It motivates me more than just instrumental,” to express that multilingual songs provide more motivation to them while preparing for exams.
By inquiring which tools students reach to first while preparing for important exams, the various student responses suggest that each student’s habits and resources are unique and individual to themselves. Because the majority of students, 46.2% to be exact, prefer to use Google to prepare for studying, while the remaining of the minority answers provide endless resources, it is clear that there is no singular way that PTS students prepare for exams, and it varies from each person. One student mentions that instead of fully preparing for one exam, they “[…] dont study a lot if I know the topic for things like science, I mostly just listen in class.”
Overall, it is clear that PTS students work hard to create a study routine unique to them that will allow them to completely involve themselves in properly preparing for exams.
